Abstract: In this paper, we propose a coverage optimization algorithm based on QoS requirements. The coverage optimization algorithm improves the network QoS performance by the joint-optimization of coverage, routing, energy efficiency and delay. The QoS metrics are created with the priorities of the routing consistence, network lifetime and the coverage model, etc. Also, a new method is developed to take advantages of the dense area to compensate the sparse area with the predictor plus interpolation method. With this method, relaying nodes from dense area are chosen to provide compensating coverage for the sparse area. Furthermore, this method can greatly improve the network lifetime by extending the contingent battery life of the nodes in the spare area. Finally, the simulation results perform the evaluation for our algorithm. © 2008 IEEE.
