Abstract: An analytical formulation of the outage probability in terms of bit error rate specification for video services in the uplink of a multirate DS-CDMA-based cellular system is presented. The video model used in this paper accounts for scene changes. In the model, each video source is modeled by a two-dimensional Markov chain. The analytical framework is formulated for the general case in which different traffic classes have different low- and/or high-bit-rate spreading gains. Furthermore, each class has a combination of low- and high-bit-rate spreading codes for each user. The analytical work leads to the determination of the capacity region of a multirate DS-CDMA system with video traffic that accounts for slow and fast motions. © 2003 IEEE.
