In this paper, a new FIR filter structure is proposed to implement the pulse-shaping filter for IS-95 Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems. The success of the proposed structure is based on the clever combination of the even and odd length filters. It is shown that the new structure leads to an 37.5% savings in the number of multiplier when applied it to design an IS-95 CDMA baseband filter. The Xilinx FPGA implementation shows that the new structure leads to much smaller design compared to the traditional filter implementation.
