This work investigates the contactless power delivery system with an air gap of 0 to 3cm between the primary and secondary coils for mobile device charging applications. The proposed power electronic energy conversion system is built based on electromagnetic resonant coupling principle. Through the resonant coupling, the system is able to deliver a large percentage of energy to the secondary side through a wider air gap for charging applications. Coupling coils with converter and frequency tracking circuits are experimented. A user-friendly messaging system is added to the system to indicate the charging activation. The system was built in the laboratory with experimental measurement data to validate its functionality and performance. © 2013 IEEE.
