Abstract: We studied the impact of the bandwidth of an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) on coherent optical detection. The optimum bandwidth is found to be 0.5 times symbol rate for both RZ- and NRZ- PSK systems, different from the direct-detection counterparts. ©2009 Optical Society of America.
