In this paper, a novel quadrature modulation based Complex Digital Processing (CDP) DS/SS system is proposed which exploits the 2-D complex chaotic lkeda Map (IM) as the spreading sequence. With the proposed system, we can mitigate multiple access interference (MAI) by using complex-valued processing method for the spreading and despreading operations. The performance of the proposed CDP system is evaluated in multi-user environment numerically and analytically under Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) and Rayleigh flat fading channel conditions. Simulation results reveal that the proposed CDP DS/SS system with the IM spreading sequence significantly outperforms the conventional Gold code based Inphase-Quadrature (I-Q) DS/SS system. © 2003 IEEE.
