Environmental regulations and developments in Singapore are discussed. Regulations are developed by The Ministry of the Environment in consultation with industry. Periodic monitoring of pollution impacts and the associated risk analysis, along with changing regulatory trends in western countries form the basis for enacting new regulations. The government plays a facilitating role in the promotion of environmental technology which requires that the government identify and encourage companies to switch to or develop environment-friendly substitutes and adopt innovative technologies to minimize pollution.
