dc.description.abstractThree types of membrane module have been investigated for the removal of carbon dioxide from breathing gases used in life support systems, such as in diving operations and in submersibles. The modules include flat sheet and hollow fibre membranes, microporous hydrophobic hollow fibre membranes and electrochemical membranes. The performance of each module has been compared and estimates made of the area requirements in order to reduce the carbon dioxide concentrations to acceptable levels.
