Abstract: For the first time was presented an efficient analytical procedure for the consolidation of layered and porous viscoelastic media under axisymmetric load. Governing partial differential equations were reduced to ordinary differential equations by applying place transform and then Hankel transform with respect to the time and radial coordinates respectively, and all the ordinary differential equations can be expressed by matrix ordinary differential equation. With the transfer matrix obtained from the solution of the matrix equation and by applying inverse Hankel and Laplace transforms, solutions of the consolidation for the layered soils were found without much computational efforts. Comparison with existing solution was performed in order that the accuracy of the present method could be assessed. Parametric studies were conducted for investigating the influence of viscoelasticity.
