|Title:||OPTIMAL DESIGN OF A BAR ACTING EITHER AS A BEAM UNDER A UNIFORMLY DISTRIBUTED LOAD OR AS A TIE.||Authors:||Thevendran, V.||Issue Date:||1984||Citation:||Thevendran, V. (1984). OPTIMAL DESIGN OF A BAR ACTING EITHER AS A BEAM UNDER A UNIFORMLY DISTRIBUTED LOAD OR AS A TIE.. Engineering Journal of Singapore 11 (1) : 7-12. ScholarBank@NUS Repository.||Abstract:||The paper considers the minimization of the maximum deflection of a simply supported beam under a transverse uniformly distributed load. The longitudinal elongation of the member is not to exceed a given value if it is to act as a tie. The tie-beam is to be of given volume (mass). The problem is formulated as a numerical optimization problem and is solved using a direct search optimization method.||Source Title:||Engineering Journal of Singapore||URI:||http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/65931||ISSN:||01296531|
