dc.description.abstractThe vibration amplitudes of hammer foundations must be kept within acceptable limits during operation. A one-dimensional wave equation model based on the finite element method is proposed for the analysis of these foundations. The results of the wave equation model are shown to compare favourably with some reported solutions and with experimental measurements. The versatility of the model allows the various components of the hammer-foundation system to be readily simulated. © 1993.
