dc.description.abstract | In large concrete constructions, differences in temperature develop within the concrete mass as a result of slow dissipation of heat of hydration, causing thermal stresses and possibly early cracking of concrete. In some instances, cooling of concrete has been used successfully to reduce the temperature difference, although in hot weather it may be difficult and costly to cool large volumes of concrete. This paper proposes a new layering method in which only the central portion of concrete is cooled for the reduction of temperature differences. The results of computer simulations involving the application of this layering method are presented. | |
