Abstract: In this paper, the method of moments is utilized to investigate the radiation characteristics of the two-dimensional version of a short backfire antenna excited by an input TEM mode. The theoretical predictions of the far field patterns and the input VSWR are in very good agreement with measurements performed on an actual prototype designed for the X-band. The technique has the virtue that it can be readily applied to the more useful rectangular geometry.
