dc.description.abstractMost of the travelling wave protection algorithms use correlation function method. For high impedance fault (HIF) and some system configurations, it can not perform well. In this paper, the pattern recognition technique is adopted to collaborate with the correlation function method. The new algorithm has better peak intensity, which improves its discrimination ability significantly. Further simplification is acquired due to its independence of the system configuration and fault types.
