Abstract: This paper proposes a fast and efficient optimization for unit commitment, economic dispatch and evaluation of security transfer limits in a longitudinal interconnected system consisting of a local and two external systems. This technique makes used of an integrated knowledge based and pattern recognition approach for optimal unit commitment of the local system generating units to meet the load pattern demanded of the system in the most economic and secure manner possible. At each load level the best generation pattern which minimizes production costs is obtained, and the security transfer limits are evaluated under various system constraints.
