Time constant regulators and automatic voltage regulators constitute an integral part of the dynamic simulation of power systems using micromachines. A low cost, compact, electronic version of the excitation control system for microalternators is described. The need for shadow windings, as used in earlier methods, is eliminated. The results of implementing such a control system on a 3 kva, 220 v, Mawdsley microalternator are also presented.
