Abstract: A simplified thermal energy distribution model was developed and validated by numerical simulation of the natural convection in a square cavity at a wide range of Rayleigh numbers. Its improvement in the efficiency to get the same accurate results was demonstrated by the comparison with numerical results using the original thermal model. Its compressibility was also studied by the comparison with numerical results using the incompressible lattice Boltzmann Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (LBGK) model in the simplified thermal energy distribution model.
