Abstract: The atomic force microscopy (AFM) technique was used for investigating the nanostructural and elastic properties of a single polymeric nanofiber. A 'shish-kebab' like structure was revealed by the AFM imaging of the nanofibers. To obtain the elastic modulus, a three-point nanoscale bend test was performed. The results show that the elastic modulus is 1.0±0.2 GPa for fibers less than 350 mm but decreases with increase in fiber diameter in excess of 350 nm.
