Visual-motor association refers to the ability to successfully integrate visual and motor responses into a physical action - Hand-eye coordination is a salient visual-motion association using eyes and hands together to accomplish a task. Hand-eye coordination is crucial to interventionalists performing less invasive vascular surgery by navigating catheter or guide-wire devices through a patient's vasculature to reach the diseased lesions for ballooning, stenting and embolization purposes. This work presents our research on virtual reality (VR) in developing interventional simulator aiming to enhance trainee's hand-eye coordination for revascularization. In particular, 3D reconstruction of vascular network, interventional interaction and visualization, and tactile VR simulator design will be addressed. VR simulated neurological and renal revascularization will be discussed.
