Abstract: A new method of suspended beam coupled with circle-fit approach for determining energy dissipation was presented. The method was used to measure damping of SiC particulate reinforced magnesium composites. The dependence of damping capability of the composite with SiC particulate size variation was also discussed. The results showed that the energy dissipation enhances with addition of SiC particulates in metal matrix. It was also found that the damping of magnesium increases and then decreases with an increase in SiC particulate size.
