Abstract: Microcombustors with diameters of 2 and 6 mm are studied. The effect of the diameter on the transverse profiles of velocity, temperature and species mass fraction, as well as the axial volumetric heat loss and the wall shear stress were simulated and analyzed. The results show that there is a flat region on the transverse profiles for the 6 mm microcombustor. However, there is no flat region on the profiles for the 2 mm microcombustor. The non-flat structure reflects the wall effects. In addition, both the volumetric heat loss and the wall shear stress increase with decreasing the diameter. © 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
