An accurate numerical technique is developed for flexural vibration of rectangular and L-shaped plates continuous over rigid supports with arbitrary number of spans. A set of orthogonally generated two-dimensional plates function is used in the Rayleigh-Ritz method to determine the natural frequencies of the plate systems. Several numerical examples are presented and the results obtained, where possible, are compared with the known solutions in the literature. The present method is proven to be extremely versatile in solving a broad class of the aforementioned problems. © 1991.
