Abstract: A tolerance chart is a very useful tool for process engineers to determine tolerances and mean values of working dimensions in a process plan. The mean working dimensions can be calculated from linear equations while the tolerances are still mainly assigned manually. This paper presents a linear programming (LP) model of tolerance assignment for computer-aided tolerance charting. A linear equation set can be obtained which is useful to analyze the LP model. Furthermore, the condition of a non-existing feasible solution of the LP model is derived. Finally, the LP model is solved from its dual problem.
