In this paper, efficiencies based on the first and second laws of thermodynamics are formulated to evaluate the thermal performance of brick manufacturing plants. The results are applied to experimental and production data from three brickworks, having daily production volumes ranging from 50,000 to 200,000 bricks. The analyses show that the larger of the brickworks has higher first and second law efficiencies. © 1986.
