dc.description.abstract | A remarkable development has taken place in recent years in the field of tool materials that has resulted in a several-fold increase in the cutting speed of materials. In line with this, industrial machine-tool builders are also producing machines offering increasingly higher speeds, but such higher speeds have brought new problems. For example, in turning, it has been observed experimentally that the clamping force decreases with the increase of the rotational speed of the spindle, regaining its strength as the speed is reduced. However, a detailed study is needed to substantiate this phenomenon both experimentally and analytically. The aim of the present study is to determine the effect of spindle speed on chucking force and to seek the analytical support to substantiate experimental findings. The results of this study will serve as a guideline for determining the limiting speed of machine tool spindles. © 1993. | |
