This paper illustrates the influence of fabric pre-stretching on the tensile properties of knitted fabric composites. Prior to the composite fabrication, the fabric was stretched bi-axially in wale and course directions by different amounts. It has been shown that tensile properties of the composite in a specific direction can be improved by selectively pre-stretching the fabric more in that direction. It is also found that the equi-biaxially pre-stretched fabric composite displays marginally higher tensile properties compared to the composite reinforced with 0% pre-stretched fabric.
