Abstract: A higher order polynomial expressed in a parametric form is proposed to describe the curved slots of a Geneva mechanism. The parameter in the polynomial can be used to modify the kinematic characteristics of the Geneva mechanism without affecting the dwell time to the motion time ratio for each cycle. The shock loading of the mechanism due to non-zero initial and final acceleration is eliminated. © 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
