Abstract: The effect of platinum buffer layer on magnetic and structural properties of FePt thin films was discussed. It was found that the out-of-plane coercivity of the film increases linearly with the increase of the thickness of the platinum buffer layer. It was also found that the changes in the structural and magnetic properties of FePt films were related to the suppression of the chromium diffusion by the platinum buffer layer.
