Abstract: A novel hybrid pseudo-spectral time-domain method (PSTD) and the time-domain finite-element method (TDFEM) scheme is proposed. Compared with TDFEM-FDTD, the TDFEM-PSTD greatly alleviates the Courant limit on spatial discretization, as only two cells per wavelength are needed. For the same accuracy, our numerical simulations clearly show that the proposed hybrid method is more robust and efficient than the FEM-FDTD. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
