Abstract: The 3-hydroxy-2-oxindole scaffold is being continuously discovered to be at the core of a diverse set of natural products. Herein, we document a highly efficient catalytic decarboxylative [1,2]-addition strategy to quickly assemble this scaffold, using a catalytic amount of weak base. © 2012 American Chemical Society.
