Abstract: A new hybrid scheme that combines the pseudospectral time domain method (PSTD) and the time domain finite element method (FEM) is proposed to overcome the courant limit of the FEM-FDTD method. The proposed TDFEM-PSTD algorithm is more efficient than the FEM-FDTD method as it only requires 2 cells per guided wavelength to maintain stability. The newly proposed domain decomposition method (DDM) and Mortar Technique [4] are employed on the interface for the transition between two non-conforming domains. Anisotropic uni-axial PML was employed to eliminate the wraparound effect of PSTD. The proposed algorithm is verified numerically in this paper. © 2005 IEEE.
