Educational level, liberal sex role values, instrumentality, expressiveness, and career commitment were assessed for 412 Japanese female clerical employees. Career commitment was related significantly and positively to educational level, liberal sex role values, and instrumentality, and negatively to expressiveness. Stepwise, hierarchical multiple regression analyses indicated that liberal sex role values and instrumentality made dominant contributions to career commitment. The findings are discussed in terms of Japanese women's career development. © 1991.
