ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | With the continuous increasing of number and complexity of tools used in manufacturing industry, there is a significant need for data management regarding cutting tools, holders and accessories. The aim of project is to develop a cutting tool management system, which consists of two main parts. One part is an application independent cutting tool database system, which contains cutting tool information in a generic table structure. The rules and constraints for saving and selecting tools, inserts, holders and cutting data etc. are embedded in the structure of tables and relationships between tables of RDBMS. The other part is an user-friendly interface designed in Java language under Windows operating system in order to facilitate data entering, data selection and data maintenance. An interface to Microcim's OPC Server for Delta Tau's PMACA? motion control boards is implemented in the program to demonstrate the ability of communication with CNC machines.
