Issue Date: | 2024 | Citation: | ELSHA LYANA ABDOL WAHAB (2024). INTEGRATING GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS) AND BUILDING INFORMATION MODELLING (BIM) FOR IMPROVEMENT OF CONSTRUCTION PRACTICES USING OPEN-SOURCE DATA. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | This paper investigates the transformative potential of integrating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) for sustainable and data-driven construction practices in Singapore context. By considering the advantages and disadvantages of each technology when in silo, the study investigates how a combined BIM-GIS framework facilitate environmentally conscious design through sustainable design, improvements in site selection and the documentation of construction submissions. This study also evaluates the government efforts in encouraging BIM adoption through the establishment of the CORENET X Code of Practice and analyses the opportunities that arise when integrating open-sourced geospatial data for enhanced decision making. Through a case study implementation, this paper proposed a workflow on how user can leverage on open-source data for more informed site and building design to minimise its effects on the environment by adopting site-specific design. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/249332 |
