Issue Date: | 2024 | Citation: | BRACNEY PEH (2024). LEGAL FRAMEWORK FOR SUSTAINABLE FACILITIES MANAGEMENT IN SINGAPORE. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | A lack of proper implementation of sustainable facilities management would lead to various negative outcomes which would have a direct impact on the environment and the managing organisation. The application of the appropriate practices would ensure the long term sustainability of the facilities used in addition to the safety and health of the occupants of the building. Furthermore, the emphasis on sustainability has been rising rapidly in Singapore in recent years. The reputation of Singapore as a “clean and green” city is placing an increasing importance on the significance of sustainability in facilities management. The main aim of this research is to investigate the current regulations in place and gain a better understanding on the implementation of sustainable facilities management practices in Singapore buildings. A literature study was conducted on the regulatory laws and the guidelines related to sustainable facilities management which further promotes the practices. Interviews with the identified professionals working in the facilities management field were also conducted to gain insight into the challenges faced during the implementation of sustainable practices and seek their opinions stemming from their experience in the industry. A legal framework for sustainable facilities management has been developed through a thorough analysis on the literature review and the data collected. The author hopes that this framework would be instrumental in the further development of sustainable facilities management and contribute to the adoption of these practices in Singapore for the upcoming years. The author has endeavoured to state the law in Singapore as at 1 March 2024. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/249323 |
