Abstract: The lack of public awareness of the Quantity Surveying profession in Singapore results in a shortage of Quantity Surveyors professionals. To mitigate turnover rate and attract prospective individuals, it is crucial to gain a clear understanding of the job scope, responsibilities, and suitability for potential Quantity Surveyors. This study explores the relationship between Quantity Surveyors' personality and work outcomes. The research objectives are to (a) examine the personality traits, work outcomes, and interest in Quantity Surveying work, (b) investigate the relationship between Quantity Surveyors’ work outcomes and personalities, as well as their personality and interest level in the work scope, (c) recommend personality types that suits a Quantity Surveyor, aiming to maximize work outcomes and leverage on their strengths. A questionnaire was designed using the findings from the literature review to investigate the relationship between the Big 5 personality model, 11 work outcomes and 15 Quantity Surveying work scopes. Data collection was facilitated using Google Forms and subsequent analysis was conducted using the SPSS software. It was found that Quantity Surveyors exhibit significantly high extraversion, conscientiousness, openness to experience, and agreeableness, while displaying low neuroticism. It was found that those who are high on openness to experience are more likely to have higher job satisfaction and work productivity. Quantity surveyors who are high on extraversion are more likely to have higher satisfaction with job achievements and job meaningfulness and higher work motivation. The results also show the specific personality traits that influence Quantity Surveyors’ interest in certain work scopes.
