Abstract: Mankind has constantly been affected by disasters, whether it is natural, or man-made. As houses are destroyed, people need to find shelters to stay in. Much of the relief housing available for disaster areas has been temporary solutions to a disaster situation. Often, they have been standard prototypes that are used in all situations, thus not able to provide adequate shelter for longer-term usages. This thesis aims to response to the current situation of relief aid to disaster in tropical regions, in terms of shelter and housing provision. PROTOTYPE The design includes a prototype disaster relief shelter appropriate to the Tropical region, & proposals for implementation of shelter onto different terrain condition. The system is also flexible to adapt to variation in settlement layouts based on the population size, usages & function. The Project aims to balance the technical & economical reality of building disaster relief shelters, as well as providing the needs of the refugees, in terms of survival as well as psychologically living and healing.
