Issue Date: | 2023 | Citation: | IZZAH DARWISYAH BTE KHAMDAN (2023). EVALUATING REMAKING OUR HEARTLAND (ROH) INITIATIVE. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | ABSTRACT Over the years, many different programmes and initiatives have been introduced for the upgrading of Housing and Development Board (HDB) estates. One such initiative and programme is the Remaking Our Heartland (ROH) initiative which was launched as a comprehensive rejuvenation blueprint to renew and further develop existing HDB towns and estates. Such programmes are imperative to ensure that a good living environment and the long-term livelihood of the community can be maintained for the residents in HDB estates due to the changing demographics and household composition in HDB estates over the years. Therefore, as such upgrading programmes are vital in sustaining the quality of the living environment for Singaporeans, this study will evaluate and analyse whether current upgrades meet the needs of residents and are well managed to further improve future upgrading works in order to further better the living space for residents. This study will focus on a single area - Woodlands. The literature review will analyse renewal projects in Singapore and the different case studies of regeneration in other countries to provide insight into how Singapore can benefit from the procedures done by these countries.
