Abstract: The Youth Station explores the possibility of inserting a youth facility in Orchard, giving the ‘displaced’ youths a place in the city. Orchard Road is saturated with commercial activities, mainly shopping and entertainment and while these activities have proven to be a draw for youths, they are somewhat displaced as Orchard Road caters more to tourists and adults with spending power. There are also very few places designed for youths as a component of society in mind. This project looks into returning the street to the youths and increasing the vibrancy of the Youth Hub in Orchard. It serves as a city community club for youths to gather, providing alternative activities for bored youths hanging out at public places. The youth scene in Orchard can be sustained by creating local economies (live music, cafes, shoplets, bazaars), which provide clean, well-lit places for young people to go as well as work in. The Youth Station will also be a platform that sustains youth interests where youths may interact and exchange skills and expertise with other youths, creating a sense of local ownership for the youths
