Abstract: Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) are used to account for environmental considerations in the development process. These assessments are especially important in Singapore’s context as they help to guide the sensitive development of our little remaining greenfield sites. This paper will first situate the EIA regime in Singapore within the global context; second, introduce the various components and stages of the EIA process in Singapore; third, identify weaknesses in Singapore’s EIA practices. Last, it examines the existing solutions implemented by the government to address these challenges, and offers policy options and discusses their merits and drawbacks.
