Abstract: This research focuses on the dual process of the localization of literati and the development of Neo-Confucianism in Henan Province during the Mid-Late Ming period. I argue that there were two major processes taking place in North China from the 15th to 16th centuries. The Yangming School was gaining popularity and dominating the intellectual scene on one hand. Henan literati was also going through a process of localization on the other. This “localization of literati”, a major southern trend during the “Sung-Yuan-Ming Transition”, was spreading to North China. This paper will also present the interactions of the different historical dynamics in the region during the Mid-Late Ming Dynasty.
