Title: | FIRE SYSTEMS IN SHOPPING CENTRES | Authors: | HENG CHIEW YEN | Issue Date: | 2005 | Citation: | HENG CHIEW YEN (2005). FIRE SYSTEMS IN SHOPPING CENTRES. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Almost all buildings in Singapore are built and equipped with fire systems. The efficiency of the fire safety systems would depend on the working conditions and the design of the systems. Under the Fire Safety Act 1993 and Fire Code 2002, all shopping centres are required to equip with fire systems. Reasons for implementing the installation of fire systems would be discussed. This dissertation seeks to study whether the fire systems installed in shopping centres in Singapore are identical. The research methodology selected is case studies and survey. Case studies are carried out on two shopping centres situated in Orchard Road. 200 respondents were interviewed to obtain their opinion on the fire systems. Each independent variable of the hypothesis formed a section of the questionnaire. Questions pertaining to influencing factors and users' expectations of the fire systems were raised in the survey form. An analysis would be conducted to ascertain whether fire systems used in shopping centres are identical, whether they do comply with regulations and also whether they are able to meet the shoppers and tenants expectation. All the findings were summarized in last chapter of this study. Recommendations were discussed in this chapter of the study. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/230901 |
