Abstract: This thesis describes exploitation of various aspects of catechol and purine chemistry to yield functional applications at the interface of biology and material sciences. The design and synthesis of catechol derivatives with their metal coordinating ability to afford metallopolymer, interfacially, was successfully employed. The usefulness of metallopolymers was validated by their potential to drive real world applications in the field of water purification and catalysis. In addition, bioinspired purine derivatives were designed and synthesized, followed by their exploration for biological activities. Purine derivatives were incorporated into polymer backbone to form immobilized polymer hydrogel for adhesivity, bioapplication and 3D cell culture of different cell lines. Moreover, in a part of thesis, purine derivatives were also explored for iron chelation and antiproliferative potency in vitro cell culture to show applications like ferroptosis inhibition and anticancer.
