Abstract: To answer two research questions – (i) How will project management be impacted by smart technology applications; and (ii) How can technologically competent PMs be developed to manage projects with smart technologies to consistently deliver successful projects, this research had the following research objectives – (i) Assess the changes to the knowledge and skillsets required to manage projects with smart technologies; (ii) Develop a Technological Competency Framework (TCF) for PMs to be competent in managing projects with smart technologies; and (iii) Develop a Knowledge-Based Technological Competency Analytics and Innovations System (KBTCAIS) to assess and improve the technological competency of PMs. Several knowledge and skills were identified to be of more importance when managing projects with smart technologies. The research also developed the TCF and KBTCAIS, providing a framework and assessment tool to allow users to assess their level of technological competency and provides recommendations to improve their technological competency.
