ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | By 2014, Land Transport Authority (LTA), under the National Cycling Plan (NCP), aims to complete a total of about 50km of intra-town cycling path networks and another 16km made available within Marina Bay. With such rapid development in Singapore’s cycling network, it is surprising that most buildings are still not bike-friendly. The purpose of this dissertation is to bridge the gap between the current provisions of bicycle facilities in commercial buildings and the ideal design elements that attributes to it to be bike-friendly. To achieve this, this research will focus on developing a set of design guidelines for bicycle-friendly buildings, which is currently unavailable. The key design elements that attribute a building to be bicycle-friendly will be established through observations via first-hand ground work and overseas case studies. The gathered data then forms the foundation of the design guidelines, which can be used for architectural planning. The dissertation also puts forward policy making measures and examples retrofitting techniques that could potentially stimulate the use of this guidelines in future and current developments respectively. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/224088 |
