Issue Date: | 9-Feb-2015 | Citation: | TAN CHIAH YUEN LINDA (2015-02-09). ANALYSIS OF SAFETY VIOLATIONS IN SINGAPORE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | This paper would be studying about safety violations in the workplace and seek to understand the factors which cause these behaviours. Coming in from the angle of violations of housekeeping rules at construction site, the aim of the research is to identify cognitive factors which may influence workers’ behaviour in maintaining proper housekeeping on site. The identified factors are then analysed to determine the significance of each factor with regards to the workers’ actual behaviour. The Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) model is used to assist in the hypotheses development, in which the three elements of TBP (attitude, subjective normative, and perceived behavioural control) will be tested and assessed to conclude if they influence intention and actual behaviour. Through surveys and interviews with relevant personnel, data were collected and analysed using IBM Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 22. Stepwise Multiple Regression Procedure and t-test are the parametric analysis methods selected to explain the extent of contribution of each independent variable towards intention and actual behaviour respectively. The findings conclude that both attitude and subjective norms contributed to formulating workers’ intentions to perform housekeeping; however, the actual behaviour depends on the workers’ perceived behavioural control. Two limitations to note would be the possible presence of social desirability bias and the relatively small sample size. To circumvent the latter limitation, the confidence interval for the SPSS analysis was set at a minimum of 95% to ensure precision and reliability of the analysis for the purpose of this study. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/223964 |
