Abstract: The Real Estate sector is an important contributor to the national economy in Singapore. It is a niche market with specialized professional equipped with the relevant knowledge and expertise to meet the specific job requirements of each RE profession. Due to its specialized nature, the public has little or no interaction with these RE professions in general. Little is known about the different types of RE professions in the sector, the job-scope and the area of expertise of each RE profession. The lack of knowledge in the RE sector is further highlighted by the apparent lack of popularity in the RE course offered by the National University of Singapore and the average prestige perceived by the public regarding the property management, development and property consulting professions. However, despite the lack of popularity in the RE course among the undergraduates and the average perceived prestige of the mentioned RE professions, these factors do not have much influence on the RE undergraduates’ decision to work in the RE sector once they graduate. Other factors like pay and enjoyment of the RE course also play a part in affecting the undergraduates’ decision to become a RE professional in future. Despite RE professions being offered a lower average monthly wage as compared to their national counterparts in Singapore in general, there are signs that the gap is narrowing in recent years and there are opportunities for RE employees to job-hop in search of a job with better prospect at the right timing due to the dearth of professional in the RE sector. Furthermore, the RE sector offers suitable job opportunities for both genders. Males are more well off financially in positional roles whereas females tend to outshine their male colleagues in commission-based RE occupations. As such, there are suitable career openings for anyone who is planning a career in the RE sector.
