Abstract: The thesis seeks to account for the future residential demand and surrounding external changes at Silat Estate through the provision of a community facility. In response to the master plan that seeks to up the current plot ratio of 0.65 to 3.5, along with plans to develop its adjacent estates, this topic seeks to address the tension having to meet new community needs coming from an anticipated larger population density from within and its adjacent estates, while having to keep some of the conserved Singapore Improvement Trust (SIT) flats from within to make sustainable changes at Silat Estate. As such, ‘Building for Changes’ will look into facilitating a role change for Silat Estate by incorporating a community role into this largely residential estate.
