ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Vietnam's forest is facing rapid deforestation and with new highways being built, the rate of deforestation is increasing rapidly. This can be attributed to the lack of management and the villagers dependency on forest resources. The thesis proposes the introduction of a forestry management and bamboo centre in a village along the highway to reduce the pressure on Vietnam's forestry resources. The use of an alternative natural resource, bamboo, to increase and diversify forest products through planting non-timber forest product species in the forests. Also, to introduce training and management programmes, bringing the NGOs closer to the forest reserves and the communities they serve. These will create new livelihood opportunities and in turn reduce the dependency on timber forest resources. This project was designed to showcase the potential of bamboo by using multiple construction methods and aesthetic qualities in a series of spaces. Essentially using the building itself to bring awareness to the vast possibilities of this material. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/223568 |
