Abstract: Energy consumption in residential buildings in Singapore has been rising over the years. Given the present rate at which energy is being used, energy cost will rise due to the increasing demand. Moreover, the reliance on fossil fuel as our source of energy, is not only harmful to the environment as they give out carbon dioxide (CO2) and contribute to global warming when burned, it is a non-renewable resource which will deplete over time. With the rise of global warming and environment damaging, there is a need for us to look for alternatives such as renewable energy or make use of green technology to minimize their adverse effects. This dissertation aims to find out the various types of energy conservation techniques and technologies in use and to determine their applicability to Singapore local residential buildings. Some recommendations to enhance the energy techniques and technologies applicable to our residential buildings are also presented. Interviews with various professionals are carried out to get information on the various energy conservation techniques and technologies. Besides that, it is to seek their perspective on the applicability of the various techniques and technologies in our local residential buildings. A case study on Singapore first sustainable public housing, Eco-Precinct: Treelodge @ Punggol, is also included. This dissertation provides an insight to the available energy-savings technologies and techniques and the case study is presented to give a start to our future sustainable public housing in Singapore.
